Sidewalls play a major role in a tent’s ability to protect the people or items under the canopy from extreme temperatures and the weather. While renting sidewalls with your tent is optional, it’s generally a good idea to have them so that you can ensure not only the comfort of your guests and staff but also keep the equipment, furniture, and other items safe and dry. To be most effective, sidewalls must be properly secured.

If sidewalls aren’t secured, then they may flap in the wind or allow rain to get into the tent. Plus, heat or cold could seep in under the edges, nullifying your efforts to keep the temperature regulated in the interior of the tent. But how do you properly secure event tent sidewalls?

Step #1

Hang the Sidewalls from the Top of the Tent

The first step is to hang the sidewalls. While how the sidewalls attach to the tent at the top may differ depending on the type you’ve rented, there will be a way to affix them to the tent. This may be a rope with spring clips that you can use to hang the sidewalls, for example.

Step #2

Attach the Sidewalls at the Sides

Once the sidewalls are attached at the top, it’s time to attach them at the sides. Depending on how long the sidewall panels are, this may involve securing them to each other or to the poles that are holding up the tent canopy. A sidewall may attach to itself after wrapping around a pole. There are typically clips that make connecting sidewall panels easy.

Step #3

Secure the Sidewalls at the Base

The final step is to secure the sidewalls to the ground. If you’re concerned about bad weather, then you’ll already want to secure the tent itself using ropes and stakes. You can do the same with the sidewalls by installing wooden boards around the edge of the tent and firmly screwing the bottoms of the sidewalls to the boards. This will prevent them from flapping around in the wind.
